BIO

Dalton Higgins is a Toronto-based public relations strategist and publicist, author of seven books, festival presenter, National Magazine Award-winning journalist,TV/radio/podcast personality, and university course instructor ("Deconstructing Drake & The Weeknd").  

 

Higgins has spearheaded successful publicity and digital marketing campaigns for a number of Fortune 500 companies and award-winning artists and athletes, and contributes to Billboard, the "music industry bible". Higgins' pioneering work in the area of media, public relations, music and multi-disciplinary arts presentation has taken him across the United States, Denmark, France, Australia, Canada, Germany, Colombia, England, Curacao, Spain, and Cuba among other destinations, and has led to him being interviewed and featured on CNN, New York Times, BET, NPR, 6ixBuzz, Hypebeast, The Shade Room, Complex, NME, Revolt TV, CBC q, and Toronto Life Magazine.

 

A longtime print journalist and TV/radio broadcaster, Higgins was the co-host of the Black Tea podcast (Rogers Media) and has written seven books, including the definitive biography of rap icon Drake "Far From Over: The Music and Life of Drake" which is carried in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame & Museum collection in Cleveland Ohio. Likewise, Higgins’ best-selling Hip Hop World book - which is carried in Harvard University’s hip hop archive - led to a 2010 Hip Hop Scholar of the Year award nomination courtesy of Washington DC’s WBLINC. His latest book "101 Fascinating Basketball Facts" (Dundurn Press) is about basketball and popular culture.    

 

Handpicked as one of 30 Torontonians by the Toronto Star - Canada's largest daily newspaper - to blog about ways to make the fourth largest city in North America more livable, Higgins has worked as an award show scriptwriter for the JUNO Awards, Gemini Award-winning comedian Russell Peters, and has conducted a wide range of "live" on-stage, in-person interviews with numerous pop culture icons including Charlamagne Tha God, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Jermaine Dupri, Nelson George, Just Blaze, Anthony Kilhoffer (Kanye West), KRS One and Funkmaster Flex.
